She will also talk about writing and life at the intersection of true crime and bad luck in the Gothic South.

In Trials of a Dead Lawyer’s Wife, Redmon embarks on a quest for truth and justice after her disbarred husband Scott changed his will mere hours before he died and bequeathed half a million dollars to his girlfriend. In living and telling this story, she brings to bear the knowledge and experience acquired in her 26-year career as a disability examiner and professional counselor, and her decade as a civil court mediator. Part of the story is set in Macon.

“This is a true, character-driven cold case story in the vein of ‘20/20,’ ‘Dateline,’ and ‘48 Hours,’” Redmon said. “It happened to me, and I wrote this book as a way to heal from this very traumatic period in my life. I want readers to know that regardless of whatever life throws at them, they should not give up on what’s right and true!”

Patrick Piciarelli, author of Hollywood Godfather, said “Trials of a Dead Lawyer’s Wife: A True Story reads like a good murder mystery novel, but it’s a true story of a woman on a mission to solve her husband’s mysterious death. Over the course of many years, and with a determined effort to uncover the truth, her story will hold you spellbound.”

Maggie is a four-time finalist for the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Nonfiction Prize. Her essays have appeared in Reed magazine, the Briar Cliff Review, Athens magazine, and the Sycamore Review, where she was a double finalist for the Wabash Prize for Nonfiction. A native Georgian, she now lives and writes on the Georgia coast. Her second book will explore growing up in the shadow of her charismatic father’s severe bipolar disorder.

Ogrefest is an annual type 1 diabetes charity event to honor Eric "Ogre" Johnson and help out a single beneficiary struggling with type 1 diabetes. The event is completely free of charge and features two days of live music from multiple genres, vendors, & a silent art auction!

Timothy McReynolds, piano. Trio Montage was formed in 2008 with the goal of establishing a presence and demand for the lovely and luscious blend of baritone, clarinet, and piano. Their program will include commissions by Mercer University’s Valencio Jackson and Erik Franklin, song arrangements of Schubert, Brahms, Strauss, Faure, and Debussy and lighter works by musical theatre titan, Stephen Sondheim.

The Mercer University Wind Ensemble will break into small chamber groups to present a concert in Macon’s favorite outdoor hangout spot, The Society Garden. Expect small groups of woodwinds, brass, and percussion to perform a variety of repertoire in a casual outdoor setting. Bringing classical music to a wider audience is something that we are passionate about!

Flute Fantasy: Celebrate the joy and beauty of spring with a variety of repertoire performed by the Mercer Flute Choir. Free and open to the public.

This chamber music concert will feature the McDuffie Center Young Artists in a concert celebrating the glory of spring and the end of the semester. Admission is free – come to see these talented conservatory students in full bloom!

Macon Arts Alliance is proud to present our April exhibit, Plein Air. Artists were asked to paint outdoor scenes around Macon in March, during the Cherry Blossom Festival.

Corks & Canvas is a fun, beginner-friendly painting workshop where you can relax and hang out with friends while a local artist teaches you how to recreate a beautiful painting. No painting experience required. Bring a beverage of your choice to sip on while you paint. The cost is $30, and includes all materials for an 11 x 14 painting (or $35 for a 16 x 20 painting). The workshops start at 7 pm and lasts two and a half hours. On April 26, Dee will teach a painting of ladybugs.

Learn how to make a decorative ceramic plate with with an animal on it! Choose from a bee, frog, mouse or dog. You will learn different clay techniques as you add texture to a press plate and sculpt your animal.  No experience necessary for this beginner-friendly class. Kristin Streilein will teach this workshop. $40 includes all materials to make 1-2 plates ($30 for 567 members). Open to ages 12 and up (ages 12-15 must be accompanied by a participating adult). April 27, 1:30-3:30 pm.

Creations will not be glazed (painted) during this class, but you can come back during our Clay Studio Night in April to glaze your creations in your choice of colors (registration for Clay Studio Night required). Clay Studio Night usually happens on the 2nd & 4th Friday of each month. Fee for workshop includes glazing during Clay Studio Night.
