Artist Statement for Show:
It is important that we give children Heroes that given them a sense of belonging and an idea of the unimaginable price paid by the people called extreme, for asking for equality. The monuments to these Heroes are placed in the hearts of anyone willing to learn the story of these courageous people, that sacrificed everything to make the world a better place.
Artist Bioraphy:
To understand the artwork of Charvis Harrell, one must understand the driving force behind his art and life. A third generation mason, he had only enough time for art as a hobby until June of 2004. That summer, at twenty-eight, Harrell was diagnosis with sarcoidosis, a disease that produces polyps within various organs in the body. This diagnosis put him on very light duty in his occupation, but, more importantly, it gave him a newfound appreciation for living. His desire to make the most of his time by paying tribute to the people and things that impact his life impacts his work. Through art, Harrell shines light upon the unsightly realities that we live. Refusing to revolt, he continues his journey to examine the darkness.

Join Macon Arts Alliance to celebrate the new 2018 Cultural Award Honorees at the 2017-18 Annual Meeting and Award Celebration scheduled for Thursday, October 25 at 5:30 PM at Mill Hill Community Arts Center located at 213 Clinton Street. The 2018 honorees are Joe & Evelyn Adams, Jan Beeland, Elliott Dunwody and Macon Little Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

The Macon Arts Alliance Cultural Awards serves as the annual meeting for the Alliance as well as an opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to arts and culture in Central Georgia.
Ocmulgee Monuments by Christopher Ian Smith
Photography by Christopher Ian Smith inspired by nature at the Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon, Georgia. First Friday Free Opening Reception October 5th 5-8 PM presented by Spa Medical and Vein Specialists of the South. This event is part of the First Friday Art Crawl and is free and open to the public.
Christopher Smith graduated with a BFA in Fine Art Photography from California State University Long Beach, and has been a professional photographer since 2005. After spending the previous five years in Southeast Asia as a photojournalist, media consultant, travel writer, and director of a documentary center, he has recently relocated and is currently based in Macon, Georgia.
His current project and upcoming show at the Macon Arts Alliance Gallery revolves around the Ocmulgee National Monument. Images are captured using strobes, kinetic movement and long exposures in a style sometimes described as “dreamscapes”. The exhibit will be on display at Macon Arts Gallery through October 26th.

I strive to capture the essence of an interaction; something that I feel is too often lost within the details or apathy. These images exhibit moments of inspiration, concentration, study and/or play that are unfailingly fleeting. Light, time, motion, speed, angle, location, and even mood, all dictate the form captured during the experience. A slight change in any aspect can create a completely different image, feeling, or portrayal of the same subject. This emphasizes that reality changes with the viewer’s perspective.
The postproduction has been restrained to modifying contrast and colors. The form is original, created using strobes, kinetic movement, and long exposures.

Join Macon Arts Alliance and the Macon Arts Roundtable for a luncheon at the Mill Hill Community Arts Center celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month featuring keynote speaker and performer Linqua Franqa from Athens, GA. The lunch is sponsored by the Griffith Foundation, celebrating 25 years of service.
About Linqua Franqa
A rapper who brings social consciousness and a Master’s degree in linguistics to her music, Linqua Franqa is the alias of Mariah Parker. Based in Athens, Georgia, she issued a playful, syllable-dense self-titled EP in early 2017 that featured production touches like archival spoken word samples and breakbeats. Parker wrote and recorded her debut album while completing her graduate studies at the University of Georgia. Titled Model Minority, it was released by Athens indie label Happy Happy Birthday to Me in early 2018.

Barbara Stanton Domingos, New Work September 2018
Join Macon Arts Alliance for an Opening Reception to celebrate the new exhibition featuring new assemblage works by Barbara Stanton Domingos. Light refreshments will be served. Barbara Stanton Domingos Artist Statement
Barbara was born in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to Macon at age nine. Domingos grew up here and attended Alexander IV School and graduated from A. L. Miller Senior High School.
Domingos attended Mercer University, majoring in Mathematics and French, and choosing arts classes as electives. When Barbara and her husband, Kirk, moved to New Orleans in 1985, the mathematician decided to take art lessons at the prestigious New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts.
Because of one extraordinary teacher, Allison Stewart, Barbara fell in love with abstract art. While in New Orleans, she continued her lessons and took took classes the Penland School in North Carolina.
After moving to Alexandria, LA in 2002, Barbara joined a group of artists who painted regularly at River Oaks Art Academy, participating in group shows and solo shows. Barbara was also commissioned to create a series of paintings.
Barbra works currently creates work in her home studio.

In Vino Veritas. In wine, there is truth. Macon Arts Alliance is truly delighted to introduce a new artistic culinary creation, available for consumption on September 28-29, 2018. The Macon Wine & Arts Festival will be hosted in collaboration with Quality Wine & Spirits in the newly restored 1920-era art deco Beeland Auditorium, located in the heart of Macon’s first neighborhood and known today as the Mill Hill East Macon Arts Village. A signature series of wine, art and musically-inspired events will educate and engage local enthusiasts and traveling truth seekers.
Prosecco & Plein Air
Bring on the bubbly. Corks will pop promptly at 5 PM on Friday, September 28 for Prosecco and Plein Air, the official opening reception of the 2nd Annual Plein Air in the Parks exhibit. The show will feature freshly painted landscapes created in September by over a dozen artists in twelve popular Macon-Bibb Parks, all professionally curated and displayed in the Mill Hill Community Arts Center Gallery. Patrons will sip prosecco, sample fruits and cheeses, admire art, mingle with artists, play bocce ball and get in the groove with music mixes from Celebrity DJs. A record swap and sale will feature vintage albums, new vinyl releases and collectibles. Prosecco & Plein Air is free and open to the public from 5-8 PM.
Vintages & Vinyl
Please your culinary palate and your artistic palette. The fabulous Beeland Auditorium will be transformed into a Grand Tasting room for Vintages & Vinyl on Saturday, September 29 from 1-4 PM. Wine experts and savvy servers will pour unlimited tastings of specially-selected international and domestic wines, offering tasting notes and pairing recommendations. Gourmet cheeses and palate-cleansing snacks will be offered while Celebrity DJs serve up sweet & spicy musical food for the soul. The Plein Air in the Parks exhibit will be open in the gallery. Adults 21 and over receive a souvenir tasting glass and admission to Vintages & Vinyl for $40. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance on macon365.com, due to limited capacity for this event.
Turning the Tables
Everyone wants the best table. Get exclusive access to VIP chef table experiences featuring small plate and wine pairings crafted by culinary celebrities. Four private sessions with professional chefs will be hosted on Saturday, September 29 from 12-5 PM in a gleaming gourmet kitchen equipped with wall-to-wall stainless steel and state-of-the-art Viking appliances. Get a front row seat and watch the artistry as gastronomic demonstrations are conducted while listening to the music that inspired them. VIP tasting sessions include a full pour of a noteworthy wine that chefs and wine experts paired to complement the dish. Turning the Tables tickets are $25 per guest per session and are available only with the purchase of a Grand Tasting ticket. Menus and chef experiences are currently in development and will be released to the public along with ticketing links on the Macon Wine & Arts Festival event listing on Macon365.com when confirmed.

Macon Clay Artrepreneurs Exhibit August 3-24
This popular show and sale opens on Friday, August 3rd with a free reception and features clay works for show and sale from Amy McCullough and her students from Macon Clay. The show will be on display through August 24th.

Amy McCullough Artist Statement
I have a BFA from UGA with a double major in sculpture and photography. I have been teaching sculptural ceramics for over 20 years. I do not throw pots or use molds like you would find in a typical pottery studio. Everything is hand built and totally unique. In addition to instructing, I sell my original artwork and do commission based work.
My work is non-functional, emphasizing form over function. I am strongly influenced by nature and its constant evolution, of both growth and decay.
There is so much history in clay. It is primal and meditative. Clay is an important medium to me, as it requires all of the elements to work – earth, water, air, & fire. Pushing the clay to extreme limits is a challenge that I find most rewarding. Experimentation with clay additives and alternative glazing techniques are also exciting elements in my process. The outcome is almost always a surprise to me from my original intention, which indeed gives my work the viscous feeling that the clay itself deserves.
