call for art: Reflections on the Bicentennial Year

The Macon-Bibb County Bicentennial Committee seeks artists for exhibition in the newly renewed Macon Mall during the bicentennial year throughout 2023. The exhibition is open to local artists residing in Macon-Bibb County of all mediums, with both 2-D and 3-D art accepted, reflecting on 200 years and beyond of Macon’s history through the lens of three themes: Blossoming, Untold Stories, and A Sense of Place.

There will be three separate quarterly exhibitions, beginning March 17, 2023, each with a different theme. The first theme for reflection, open from approximately March 17 to June 2, will be Blossoming. The second theme, open from approximately June 16 to September 1, will be Untold Stories. The third theme, open from approximately September 15 to December 29, will be A Sense of Place.

The deadline for consideration into this exhibition is February 17, 2023. Work that is accepted must be delivered to the Macon Mall, 3661 Eisenhower Pkwy, Macon, GA 31206 in order to be included.

Work will be shown and sold with 100% of the sales price returned to the artist, and the artist facilitating the sale and transfer of money. Artists accepted into the exhibition should provide contact information or an online sales page that potential patrons can use to facilitate payment. Works that are sold will be available for pickup after the quarterly exhibition closes.

All unsold items must be picked up by December 30, 2023.

Each entry will be judged by a blind jury of local curators on artistic expression, use of theme, originality, and technique. Artists may submit more than one entry for consideration.

Theme: Blossoming

Opening ourselves up to Macon’s joys throughout history and the success to come to our beloved city in the future. Blossoming is a theme that suggests a sense of opening up to a bright and colorful spotlight, just as Macon’s famous cherry blossoms put a beautiful spotlight on our town each year.

Theme: Untold Stories

Evoking important names, faces, and places that have been buried or unknown to Macon. Untold Stories is a theme that can simultaneously challenge our history and uplift Macon’s future by focusing on those who may feel forgotten or unappreciated.

Theme: A Sense of Place

Defining the essence of what makes our fair city uniquely Macon. A Sense of Place is a theme that implies nostalgia and attachment to the ground we walk on, while exploring what more that Macon could become.
