This special event celebrates the history, artistry, and enduring legacy of the Muscogee (Creek) people in Georgia through the voice of one of the nation’s most celebrated writers—internationally renowned poet, musician, and the first Native American U.S. Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo.
Harjo will appear at Middle Georgia State University for a free poetry reading and conversation, exploring themes of identity, ancestry, and the deep connections between the Muscogee people and the lands of present-day Georgia. Ocmulgee Rising is presented in partnership with Middle Georgia State University, the Ocmulgee Mounds Association, the Georgia Council for the Arts, and the National Humanities Center as part of the Being Human Festival (US). First launched in the United Kingdom, this nationwide festival features a series of community-driven events celebrating the role of the humanities in everyday life.

Award-winning artist, Scott Serafy, will guide you through the steps to paint one of various subjects (florals, cityscapes, landscapes, still lifes). We've had great times over the last seven months of classes. One participant said, "We had a blast! Thank you for an amazing evening!" April's subject will be a landscape in the style of the picture above. $30 includes all materials for the class. The workshop starts at 7pm and goes for 2 hours. There are 12 spots available for the class.

Creations will not be glazed (painted) during this class, and you must come back during one of our Clay Studio Nights to glaze your creations in your choice of colors (registration for Clay Studio Night required). Parents are encouraged to drop their child off and pick them up when class is over, or sign up to paint along with their child. The workshop starts at 10:30 am and lasts an hour and a half. $20 includes all materials for the class and a drink to sip. On Saturday, April 26, Dee will teach a painting of a colorful Easter eggs and Peeps.

Details:
This class is FREE to attend for adults 18 and up, but please pre-register to help us prepare for the class.
Class will begin at 6:00 PM in the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center parking lot, and last for about 2 hours. We'll have FREE Bike Walk Macon lights, snacks, and water. Be sure to bring your helmet!
Bike Walk Macon has a limited supply of bicycles for use, though we recommend bringing your own bike since it is best to learn to ride on the bike you will be using most. Email kaylee@bikewalkmacon.com to borrow a bike.

Queso has shown in many area art and craft shows and is a driving force behind Macon's Court of Miracles artist group. INfluence Leadership Institute, Hayiya Dance Theatre, Inc.'s leadership program for students ages 9 to 18, is designed to foster academic success, artistic growth, and leadership development. The program emphasizes not only personal and academic achievements but also the importance of community service, helping students become active and responsible leaders in their communities. Represented visually by the Adinkra symbol "Adinkrahene" — three concentric circles — INfluence encourages students to recognize and balance their personal "circle of influence." Through this symbolic approach, the program equips young people with the tools and mindset necessary to excel both academically and in real-life situations, preparing them for future success in education, career, and community engagement.

Award-winning artist, Scott Serafy, will guide you through the steps to paint one of various subjects (florals, cityscapes, landscapes, still lifes). We've had great times over the last seven months of classes. One participant said, "We had a blast! Thank you for an amazing evening!" April's subject will be a landscape in the style of the picture above. $30 includes all materials for the class. The workshop starts at 7pm and goes for 2 hours. There are 12 spots available for the class.

Creations will not be glazed (painted) during this class, and you must come back during one of our Clay Studio Nights to glaze your creations in your choice of colors (registration for Clay Studio Night required). Parents are encouraged to drop their child off and pick them up when class is over, or sign up to paint along with their child. The workshop starts at 10:30 am and lasts an hour and a half. $20 includes all materials for the class and a drink to sip. On Saturday, April 26, Dee will teach a painting of a colorful Easter eggs and Peeps.

The class will help students be predictable, visible, and confident while biking in an urban environment.
Details:
This class is FREE to attend for adults 18 and up, but please pre-register to help us prepare for the class.
Class will begin at 6:00 PM in the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center parking lot, and last for about 2 hours. We'll have FREE Bike Walk Macon lights, snacks, and water. Be sure to bring your helmet!
Bike Walk Macon has a limited supply of bicycles for use, though we recommend bringing your own bike since it is best to learn to ride on the bike you will be using most. Email kaylee@bikewalkmacon.com to borrow a bike.

Queso has shown in many area art and craft shows and is a driving force behind Macon's Court of Miracles artist group. INfluence Leadership Institute, Hayiya Dance Theatre, Inc.'s leadership program for students ages 9 to 18, is designed to foster academic success, artistic growth, and leadership development. The program emphasizes not only personal and academic achievements but also the importance of community service, helping students become active and responsible leaders in their communities. Represented visually by the Adinkra symbol "Adinkrahene" — three concentric circles — INfluence encourages students to recognize and balance their personal "circle of influence." Through this symbolic approach, the program equips young people with the tools and mindset necessary to excel both academically and in real-life situations, preparing them for future success in education, career, and community engagement.
