Georgia Humanities proudly presents Ocmulgee Rising: A Celebration of Muscogee Creativity with Joy Harjo on April 24, 2025, at 11:00 am. This special event celebrates the history, artistry, and enduring legacy of the Muscogee (Creek) people in Georgia through the voice of one of the nation’s most celebrated writers—internationally renowned poet, musician, and the first Native American U.S. Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo.

Harjo will appear at Middle Georgia State University for a free poetry reading and conversation, exploring themes of identity, ancestry, and the deep connections between the Muscogee people and the lands of present-day Georgia. Ocmulgee Rising is presented in partnership with Middle Georgia State University, the Ocmulgee Mounds Association, the Georgia Council for the Arts, and the National Humanities Center as part of the Being Human Festival (US). First launched in the United Kingdom, this nationwide festival features a series of community-driven events celebrating the role of the humanities in everyday life.

Wesleyan College downtown Leadership Lab presents The Leadership Lens, Modern Mentor, a monthly speaker series that explores the concept of the modern mentor, and examines how mentorship transcends the traditional definition to shape leadership, communities, businesses and personal growth.

Learn to create a watercolor painting in a fun, relaxed setting. No painting experience required. Bring a beverage of your choice to sip on while you paint. Award-winning artist, Scott Serafy, will guide you through the steps to paint one of various subjects (florals, cityscapes, landscapes, still lifes). We've had great times over the last seven months of classes. One participant said, "We had a blast! Thank you for an amazing evening!" April's subject will be a landscape in the style of the picture above. $30 includes all materials for the class. The workshop starts at 7pm and goes for 2 hours. There are 12 spots available for the class.

What's resin all about? Give this trending craft a try at The 567 Center! Create your own custom trinket holder. You'll be guided step-by-step through mixing and adding colors, pouring the resin, and adding decorative touches to create your dish. Choose from a round or oblong shape (or you can even make an incense holder!). This workshop will be led by Malissa Kelsey of MADE by MK. $40 includes all materials ($34 for 567 members). Middle Georgia is home to an incredible group of artists, but don't take our word for it, come see for yourself! Macon Arts Alliance is pleased to be hosting a variety of work by the local artist group, 478 Creatives, as our April exhibit. We invite you to experience the diverse collection of artwork from acrylic, mixed media, photography, and more, all created by local talent. Whether you're looking to add to your collection or simply be inspired, this show is your chance to support and celebrate the artists right here in our community.

The April exhibit at The 567 is Used, featuring pastel and charcoal drawings by artist Stacey Swann. The exhibit will be on display April 4 - April 25 and artwork will be available for purchase. Admission to the gallery is free.The gallery is open from 11am-4pm Monday through Friday.

Make a pot person out of clay in this fun workshop! Kristin Streilin will show you how to give your pot personality using easy-to-learn techniques. After glazing and firing, you can take your pot home to plant. No experience necessary! $45 includes all materials to make 1 pot person ($35 for members). Open to ages 12 and up (ages 12-15 must be accompanied by a participating adult). April 26, 10:30 am-12:30 pm.

Creations will not be glazed (painted) during this class, and you must come back during one of our Clay Studio Nights to glaze your creations in your choice of colors (registration for Clay Studio Night required). Clay Studio Night usually happens on the 2nd & 4th Friday of each month. Fee for workshop includes glazing during Clay Studio Night.

At Kool-Aid & Canvas, an artist takes children age 6-12 step-by-step through the process of creating a fun painting with acrylic paints on a real canvas. The students learn a variety of painting techniques to inspire them in their own creative endeavors. Parents are encouraged to drop their child off and pick them up when class is over, or sign up to paint along with their child. The workshop starts at 10:30 am and lasts an hour and a half. $20 includes all materials for the class and a drink to sip. On Saturday, April 26, Dee will teach a painting of a colorful Easter eggs and Peeps.

Corks & Canvas is a fun, beginner-friendly painting workshop where you can relax and hang out with friends while a local artist teaches you how to recreate a beautiful painting. No painting experience required. Bring a beverage of your choice to sip on while you paint. The cost is $30, and includes all materials for an 11 x 14 painting (or $35 for a 16 x 20 painting). The workshops start at 7 pm and lasts two and a half hours. On April 26, Amanda will teach a painting of a bird house.

We feature local, as well as regional musical acts, artists, and business owners such as you. We host a local artist’s market, an African market, a children’s village, as well as a food court. The event includes FREE admission and takes place over two days. Vendors and organizations will have April 26th and 27th to offer their products to festival attendees.  The Pan African Festival is only successful when the community actively participates. We need your continued support to make this year’s 29th celebration a huge success.

This class will help you improve your experience and safety so you can pedal our city’s streets. We'll cover general bike safety, communicating with other road users, and a rules-of-the-road review. The class will help students be predictable, visible, and confident while biking in an urban environment.

This class is FREE to attend for adults 18 and up, but please pre-register to help us prepare for the class.

Class will begin at 6:00 PM in the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center parking lot, and last for about 2 hours. We'll have FREE Bike Walk Macon lights, snacks, and water. Be sure to bring your helmet!

Bike Walk Macon has a limited supply of bicycles for use, though we recommend bringing your own bike since it is best to learn to ride on the bike you will be using most. Email kaylee@bikewalkmacon.com to borrow a bike.

This film explores how transportation shapes daily life in Macon and reflects on the progress made over the past decade to create safer, more accessible streets for everyone.

What: "Macon Transportation" Documentary Screening + Q&A

Through interviews with city officials, advocates, and everyday commuters, "Macon Transportation" shares a range of perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing Macon - and the work being done to address them.

Following the screening, stick around for a Q&A session with students and community members featured in the film.

This event is free and open to the public, and it marks the official kickoff of Bike Walk Month - a month-long celebration of biking, walking, and active transportation in Macon-Bibb.

Queso is a young, talented artist from the Macon, Warner Robins, Irwinton area. She started her art journey with pencil drawings as a child and began to explore other mediums after some training in high school. She took a particular interest in acrylics and this show features a number of her recent works in acrylic and mixed media. Queso has shown in many area art and craft shows and is a driving force behind Macon's Court of Miracles artist group. As far as we know, this may be her first solo show at a gallery so we invite you to come meet her and enjoy some good times and complimentary drinks and light hors d'oeuvres.

Through interactive sessions and real-world insights, students will build confidence, develop practical life skills, and grow as leaders in their schools and communities.

This event is open to students ages 8–18 who are ready to lead with purpose and make a difference.

INfluence Leadership Institute, Hayiya Dance Theatre, Inc.'s leadership program for students ages 9 to 18, is designed to foster academic success, artistic growth, and leadership development. The program emphasizes not only personal and academic achievements but also the importance of community service, helping students become active and responsible leaders in their communities. Represented visually by the Adinkra symbol "Adinkrahene" — three concentric circles — INfluence encourages students to recognize and balance their personal "circle of influence." Through this symbolic approach, the program equips young people with the tools and mindset necessary to excel both academically and in real-life situations, preparing them for future success in education, career, and community engagement.

The May exhibit at The 567 will be Poker Face, featuring mixed media portraits by Rhonda Miller. Join us First Friday, May 2, for the opening reception from 5-8 pm, with an artist talk at 7 pm. See the new exhibit, meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments sponsored by Sherri & Randy Goss. The exhibit will be on display May 2-30, and artwork will be available for purchase.
