Experience Holiday Magic with Gifts from the Macon Arts Alliance

MACON, Ga. – Put the magic back into gift-giving with unique, hand-crafted items from The Gallery at Macon Arts Alliance. This year’s December show, “Holiday Magic: An Arts and Crafts Show and Sale,” features up to twenty artists and opens on First Friday, December 5 with a reception from 5-8 p.m. The opening reception, sponsored by Spa Medical and Vein Specialists of the South, will feature light refreshments provided by Ocmulgee Traders and a live glassblowing demonstration on site. The event is free and open to the public.

“I love the variety for this show,” said Heatherly Wakefield, director of fine art. “Over the past few years, we’ve added more artists to each December exhibit so we can appeal to every taste.”

Items include hand-knitted shawls and scarves, handmade glass ornaments, ceramics, woodwork and even photographs, many of which are Macon themed. Everything featured in this show has a personal touch and can be used for gift-giving all year round.

“We have items that would be great for birthdays, weddings, and housewarmings,” said Wakefield. “Even glass ornaments make great gifts throughout the year. They are truly timeless and a great way to start someone’s art collection.”

On First Friday, there will be a glass blowing demonstration by Charles Wells that shows how these ornaments are made. Those who visit the gallery can request colors they for their ornaments and have them made by Wells that night. Neighboring businesses will also have special activities for December’s first Friday, each reflecting the spirit of the season.

“This First Friday is going to be a great time to come down to this block,” said Wakefield. “Each shop is hosting events to showcase their unique items and encourage people to shop local.”

To improve customers’ shopping experience, The Gallery will have extended hours in December — M-F 11 a.m. to 6 p.m ., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Every Friday the gallery will have hot cider and cookies to patrons to enjoy. Even if someone is unsure of what gift to get a friend or loved one, gift certificates are also available for purchase.

“Whether you buy something or not, there are so many talented individuals in this area,” said Wakefield. “I believe this show reflects that and is something I hope others will experience and enjoy.”

“Holiday Magic: An Arts and Crafts Show and Sale” will be on display through December 24. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to visit the gallery and enjoy the incredible work of Georgia artists and artisans this holiday season.
